Glass Coating on Proton Iris

 So, last week a new Proton Iris came for glass coating. The initial condition:

Hologram

Hologram

Swirl

Some scratch

Swirl

Throughout my investigation, I found minor swirls and hologram. 1st I need to clean this car first. Using 2 bucket method to reduce scratching on the paint while washing.

After wash and clay...I go straight to 1 step polish. The reason I chose 1 step is because I don't wanna reduce so much clear coat because this is a new car. In fact, the scratch and swirl was not that bad. After 1 step polish and coating application :

No more scratch and swirl

Look at that beading showing how water repellent it is

No hologram

1) PARK YOUR CAR IN A GARAGE

Protect your car from the sun & rain. Too long exposure of sun light can lead to clear coat defects. If rain water dries on car paint, it will leave water marks.

2) WASH CAR WEEKLY 

To maintain your car to look amazing, you need to wash your car every week to remove any contamination before they eat up your coating or clear coat if they stay there long enough. 

3) APPLY PROTECTION

Protection on car paint helps extend paint lifespan by minimizing contact between contamination and clear coat surface. Examples of paint protection are Wax, Sealant and Coating..Choose your budget!!

4) CHOOSE RELIABLE DETAILER

Choosing the right detailer is as important as choosing your barber. The last thing you wanna do is pay for paint correction but the end result is not satisfying. Polishing reduce a bit of clear coat layer. A good detailer will try to minimize the reduction of clear coat layer and at the same time achieve amazing result.

tips: When choosing a detailer, look at the quality of work rather than prices.

Hi all..so initially the car was in this condition:

So here are the steps for cleaning :

1. wash with car plan shampoo mixed with a little of OSREN degreser fx for extra cleaning power
2. Clay the car with meguiars clay bar with turtle was no rinse wash as lube

The result :

Urghhh..look at the contaminants the clay picked up...the car was pretty shiny after washed and clayed...but there were swirl marks and some paint transfer need to be removed prior to glass coating.

 stone chip was treated with Ezy Touchup Paint

 After application of base coat

After polished..still visible  but reduced.

 So, paint correction begins.

The steps are:

1. Compound with Lake Country Yellow pad with Meguiars Ultimate Compound
2. Polish with Lake Country White pad with Meguiars Ultimate Polish

The result : 

 The swirl marks was not clear in this pic...damnn..need a better camera..

Proceed with glass coating

Steps:

1. IPA wipe down to get rid of all the polishing oil on the paint
2. Apply glass coating on paint
3. Buff with 1 microfiber cloth
4. Buff again with different microfiber cloth
5. Buff one last time  with different microfiber cloth
